This fits the bill! A new design from Mrs B. The Pennine hobo tote/backpack. Yes it converts to a backpack in precisely one second.
This is a lovely blue check Abraham Moon Yorkshire Tweed upholstery fabric on the outer....so it's as robust as you can get. Inner is cotton sateen. On the outside there's a flap closure pocket. It closes with a top zip. The handles are 2" (50mm) wide cotton canvas, again very robust. They are long enough to carry this bag on your shoulder. But then if you pull the straps on the side, the clever use of welded steel rings convert it to a backpack in less than 1 second.
